NASCAR at California: Odds, prediction, sleepers, drivers to watch for Auto Club 400

Sporting News — (Thomas Lott)

Can anyone stop Kyle Busch?

It will be tough this weekend, especially in Fontana, Calif. where Busch has three career wins at Auto Club Speedway and finishes in the top 10 70 percent of the time. Add that to a win last week in Phoenix, and top 10s in every single one of his starts this year and the driver will be incredibly tough to beat on Sunday.

But Kyle Larson will try to do it. The 26-year-old driver out of California has a lot of recent success in Fontana with a win in 2017 and second-place finishes in 2014 and 2018. He'll have his work cut out for him on the two-mile track as tire wear matters there and he had issues with that in Atlanta, but his track record speaks for itself.

Larson competes every week and loves to hang around the top 10 at the Auto Club. We're picking him to take the win despite the fact Busch has won four of his last five races counting the Xfinity and Truck Series.

The Auto Club 400 can be seen Sunday at 3:30 p.m. ET on FOX.

Which NASCAR drivers should you watch at the Auto Club 400?

Brad Keselowski already has a win under his belt at a tire wear track in Atlanta and his last four races in Fontana only offer encouragement for his success this weekend. Keselowski has finished fourth, second, ninth and first in his last four trips to the track.

Joey Logano earned a win at Las Vegas beating out Keselowski and Logano may be competing with him for a win again this week. Logano has top-7 finishes in five of his last six races at Fontana and top 5's in each of his last three.

Kurt Busch's recent track record at Auto Club Speedway isn't encouraging as he has finished 14th, 24th and 30th in his last three attempts there. But before those runs he finished outside the top 9 just twice in nine races and in the top five four times. If that driver shows up on Sunday he can get a win.

One sleeper for the Auto Club 400

Austin Dillon hasn't had the best success at Auto Club Speedway, but he has always been on the cusp of it. The 28-year-old has never finished better than 10th in Fontana, but he has finished 11th or better in three of his five NASCAR races there. He has to crack the top 9 eventually.
