Dev Lets ‘Division 2’ Open Beta News Slip

Variety — Liz Lanier

“The Division 2” is getting an open beta, according to a developer’s stream on Sunday, as spotted and clipped by Reddit user TiniestBuckle.

A developer behind “The Division 2” let it slip while streaming on the official TheDivisionGame Twitch channel that an open beta is coming to the game, though he didn’t reveal a date or any other details.

In the short clip, the dev says “We’re going to fix that before open.” The clip is below:

While it’s not clear when the open beta will come, players won’t have to wait too terribly long— the action rpg is getting its full release in about five weeks. And, the game already had its private beta, which just concluded.

Ubisoft did not respond to Variety‘s request for comment.

This slip-up seems minor compared to an email Ubisoft “sent in error” earlier this month, which made a joke about the most recent government shutdown to promote its private beta.

Where some customers may lose interest in the upcoming PC version of the game is its release on the Epic Games Store. In January, “The Division 2” was pulled from Steam. The game will also be available via the Ubisoft store. The shift is likely due to Ubisoft preferring Epic’s taking a 12% cut of profits over Valve’s 30% for all games on the Steam store.

“Tom Clancy’s The Division 2” is planned for release on March 15 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
